December 2011 - January 2012 Update

So I know I haven’t been here for a while and I do not promise that I will be visiting Tumblr often.. I just do whatever I want, so if I have something to say/write about then I shall do so. Just letting you know! (if there are actually people reading this :D) I’m gonna talk about latest events in my life and what’s going on at the moment. Had a nice rest over the christmas break, where I managed to hook up with all of my three bands that I am producing (Snave, Always Outdoors, The Flames) and probably the biggest event of the christmas break was my “DJ/Audio Host” “gig” on the New Year’s Eve. I mean it was nice and interesting to do something different and something unusual to me. Plus, that was my first ever PAID gig, which also played a big role :D About me producing those three bands I listed earlier, those are just bands that my friends are in and I am just basically helping them with the writing and recording process of their debut albums. They’re quite independent at this stage though, not that they really need me.. But they will once we are gonna start all the recording this spring/summer. Also, during a christmas break I released my latest dubstep track called “Drop The Bomb”. It was a nice experimenting track where I tried some new things, things that I haven’t done before. So yeah, that was my christmas break. But now I’m back in the UK and have studies to go along with all other stuff i’m working on. A bit less than a week ago I made a new friend Nathan Davis and we both are gonna follow our passion for dubstep production together. Got a couple of tracks we are currently working on and it’s sounding pretty cool so far :P He is a really cool guy and we have quite a lot of things in common, so it’s a pleasure to work with him! We have our friend Melanie helping us out with the vocals for one track already and I can’t wait to here how it all sounds together! Today, a friend of Nathan’s, Georgina showed me/us some of her artwork and I was blown away by it! Her stuff is VERY expressive and it’s dark and it’s detailed and it’s very unusual (in a great way). It stands out from the most of art I’ve seen in years! I will post one or two of her works that she sent me later on, I need to ask her permission to put it up here. And she is happy to help us out with an Artwork for what we are currently working on! So all this stuff, how it’s developing so fast just amazes me! And all these new people I’ve virtually met are cool and have very interesting and artistic personalities! That was the main thing I wanted to talk about, because that is just one of those things that are so big and important in my life at the moment that you simply cannot ignore it and you have to share it with others. I hope you don’t perceive this in a way that you’re thinking i’m writing this only to boast about my life and everything. I’m just sharing it with whoever is reading this. And apparently, if you are still reading it after almost 600 words then there’s something in this that interests you. So yeah, our dubstep production with Nathan is taking up most of my free time. However i wouldn’t put it that way. I would say that I am dedicating most of my free time to dubstep production with Nathan. But I still got other stuff to do, like school work, but i don’t want to go into details on that subject, it’s just boring :D. Other things that happened lately, is me and my UK-based friend Massimo have finally seeing some progress in our project for creating house/pop/dance music. Which is absolutely in other direction than the stuff we’re doing with Nathan. Simply, because what me and Massimo are doing is this club music that is positive and upbeat and just plain dance music. Whereas dubstep is way more expressive for me, personally. However, I still love both projects and I am extremely happy to have these two projects running. They do not interfere with each other in ANY way and that, in my opinion, is the best part, because everyone’s happy. It’s not like I am just wasting my potential and my creativity in only one of those projects. Having two projects like that means that I am able to work on music 24/7! It’s like i am thinking absolutely differently for both of the projects, it’s like i am a completely different person. Also, I am currently trying to teach myself to play drums. I’ve already taught myself guitar a couple of years ago and I am in a rock band of my own, and I also have guitar tutorial videos on my youtube channel ( http://www.youtube.com/user/KirjaiMusic ) if you want you can check that out. So yeah, after teaching myself guitar at a decent level, at a level i am absolutely happy and satisfied with, I want to see whether I can do the same with drums. So I’m casually just practicing my rudiments and learning my favorite songs of my favorite artists. Apart from all that I have a small secret project that i am going to finish next week. It takes minimum of my time but it is going to be special. I’ve only been working on it for a week and I am going to finish it next week. No biggie. These guitar tutorials which take about 6 hours to edit (the actual videos, not the recording and shooting part) are a real pain, but I like doing those tutorials, but at the same time I do not have time to edit the videos.. I think I will just go to uploading once a month. I guess that covers it all. Those are all the “news” of what’s going on. You know, I know that most people, who follow me on twitter or on tumblr (is there anyone following me on tumblr? :D i doubt it) will never read it, but I am posting it because it matters to me and if you are not interested in what I’ve written, then I will advise you to unfollow me, because that is my life and that is what I do. This is kinda filtering out the people :D Because it MAY attract new people who would be interested in my stuff and it also will let others see what I am all about and they will unfollow me and lose all their interest in me :D Thanks for checking this update. Hopefully, you enjoyed it! Thanks again

My Week (26 - 09 - 2011)

Another rather EXCITING WEEK! A lot happened and I can’t recall anything bad that’s happened off the top of my head right now. Maybe even nothing bad happened! So as I wrote in my previous week’s “update” (I don’t wanna call this a blog for some reason ;D ) this guy Massimo, who contacted me saying he would like to work with me on some house and other club music. I agreed because i wouldn’t turn that kind of opportunity down!

So yeah, on Monday we talked more about it and talked a bit about our influences and shit.. Even though Monday was meant to be Computing day for me I didn’t follow my schedule this week and I’m ashamed of that.. It’s just my weekend was so busy last week, that I hardly did anything that I wanted to.. -.- Obviously, what I really wanted to do was music related, so I kept making music all week long, pretty much ;D On Monday I tried myself as a dubstep artist. And even though it was my first time producing an original dubstep track (I made a Katy Perry Remix earlier this year, in July), I got lucky and I managed to come up with, in my opinion, a pretty nice dubstep song! It’s not very versatile, but I’m thinking about keep improving it forward, I have some ideas already :P Anyway, the song is called Misfit ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kykbVZpv7mc ) and I am proud of it the way it came out :P I did all the recording for Misfit on Monday and I kept refining and mixing it during my free periods on Tuesday -.- I just can’t fight the urges, you know.. if I want something done, I will do it no matter what..

As soon as I finished mixing Misfit I made an artwork for it, so I would have something to put to youtube. During lunch break I came to Massimo’s study to talk a bit more about that house music production. We both had our laptops with us, and we both use Logic Pro for our stuff! I had some plug ins like “Massive” by Native Instruments that he didn’t have and I, for example, didn’t have this plugin called “Sylenth”. I found out that I don’t like working on a same project with somebody else AT THE SAME TIME. During those lunch breaks we didn’t write shit ;D We just played around with the sounds and plugins.. Nothing epic really happened.. Nothing clicked between us.. However after that, I had a late night working on some house music for my collaboration with Massimo. As I am the kind of person that likes to finish everything in one go and then only refine what was made, I spent couple of hours on that. As soon as I ran out of ideas, I wrapped everything up and sent it to Massimo, so he can tweak it the way he likes and add anything he wants :)

The rest of the week wasn’t really eventful. Wednesday was boring, Thursday was cool, as it was really hot, like 26 outside and we played rugby with forward passes during games.. it was cool! On Friday, however, I started working on the tutorial for this week.. I made a tutorial for Avenged Sevenfold’s song Unholy Confessions from Waking the fallen.. It took me quite a while to record this one ;D I’m talking about the audio.. When I was shooting the video, I was shooting each guitar (and there were three of them in the song) from three different angles, and overall it took me like one and a half hour to shoot just the cover part.. When I started doing the tutorial part, I saw that I don’t have much time left on the memory stick so I started rushing the tutorial and in the end i’m not really pleased with the result, but I did as much as I could to fix it when I was editing it.. Hopefully, it’s still useful to people :) I was editing the tutorial most of Saturday. Besides that, I went to the town for a couple of hours..

Sunday is just over and in the middle of the day I was in the mood for some dubstep :P So I decided to do a dubstep remix of a famous song.. Eventually, i picked Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera .. The song is awesome! I really dig it! So me, and my mate Jonny, sat down and started thinking about the remix (he likes dubstep and likes to be involved in the production process :P and he’s fun to be around!). After like 5 hours I finished the recording part. It took so long, because the first hour I was in the middle of the chorus but I realized it doesn’t sound like dubstep at all.. it is like more pop, house, electro.. i didn’t like the idea of that so I started from scratch again.. I’ve done it all today and was really pleased with the result :P I made an artwork for the song based on the original artwork and it’s uploading to youtube as I’m writing this! I uploaded it about an hour ago already, but the audio was clipping again! I hate when it happens! It’s just a waste of bandwidth… Luckily, this video is just 70MBs as it’s just an artwork, not a video :P

Anyway, even though I didn’t follow my week’s schedule, the week came out AWESOME. I’m taking a break from dubstep for a while now.. (well.. a week ;D) to concentrate on writing rock songs for the album.. Have some ideas, just didn’t have time to write them down :P And I’m not gonna upload a video now, because my computer crashed just now when I was in the middle of the re-upload.. Fuck this shit, I’m too tired to react to it negatively.. I’ll just do it tomorrow.. My computer needs some rest and so do I!.. I was going to stay up and watch Rock in Rio, because Evanescence, S.O.A.D. and Guns ‘n Roses perform today but Evanescence are going to take the stage only in an hour, and SOAD and G’nR perform after Evanescence.. It’s 1:30am already, so I’ll better go to sleep.. Have a great week, everyone!!! If you’re reading this, thank you for reading this :P Seriously.. I’m surprised someone got this far ;D Anyway, I’m out! PEACE!

My Week (19-09-2011)

It’s been a hell of a week! It started out pretty average with all the usual school stuff. But on Tuesday I finally pulled myself together and became organized! I came up with this basic but cool week schedule on how to manage my free time. I have a great number of projects going on but I just never have the time to either finish them or even start them!

So I decided that Computing is going to be on the top of my agenda on Monday. Which means that I will be doing my Computing related stuff on Monday. This involves learning C++ for my project and actually doing the project itself! I do it on my free periods during the day and during prep time (if I’ve done all my prep).. I have free time from 4:30pm until 5:30pm (I usually go to the gym at that time) and from 8:30pm until I go to sleep! (which is AT LEAST after 11pm)

Tuesday is IT day. When I do my IT project the whole day..

Wednesday is Maths day.. -.- the most boring day of the week, probably. I gotta get that A or even A* in Maths this year, so I gotta work hard man..

Thursday is when the fun starts! From Thursday up until Monday I do mostly music! I produce people I collaborate with, I write the album with my awesome drummer Arthur, do some electronic music, guitar tutorials (which I’m trying to upload 1 per week) and do rock covers of pop songs then make a video, edit it and post it on youtube! That’s the fun time of the week :P But is the busiest one as well.. I hardly can wake up in the mornings now! and you know what’s the best part of it all is? I LOVE IT! I love how I’m busy all the time! I Thank God for that! I Thank God for these opportunities I’m given! I appreciate it and they make me extremely happy!

All these current projects help me to focus on other stuff than just counting the days until I get back to Latvia to visit my awesome (THE BEST) girlfriend of all! I truly love her and miss her here.. I wish I could always be by her side, but I can’t as I work hard for our future. You know, if I work now, it will be better afterwards! We sometimes argue when I’m here but it’s just because we’re both disappointed we’re not there, with each other. However, I feel like I’m the happiest man alive when I know that she’s fine and she’s smiling and just enjoying that we are talking, even though we’re not by each other’s side at the moment! That makes my day.. and even my week! I love her and despite how busy I am, she’s always on my mind and I always relate every thing to her, so there’s a part of her in everything I do. Maybe that’s why I enjoy my projects so much and don’t feel like we haven’t seen each other in a long time?.. who knows.. might be :)

Anyway, as you are reading this, you have another week ahead of you and you should embrace it with every single possibility and opportunity you are presented with! Remember, that the fear of being stupid keeps you back! Don’t think about those that will be against you, think about those, who will be WITH you! Embracing each opportunity will give you more opportunities and then even more and more! Don’t ever waste your chances! they are one in a million! You don’t want to be waiting for something for a long time and then not do it! Do it because you’ve been waiting so long! Success is based upon small steps. Don’t wait for a leap, do small steps and be successful!

Have a great week! Stay positive!
